Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Winter term will be our time of transition. Starting in the new year, Jaspersoft will be available in CORE for approved users and BI Query will also remain on. During this time of transition, please make sure you have migrated all your reoccurring reports to either CORE or Jaspersoft. The BI Query tool will be disconnected from the SIS data on March 31st.

Both are ad hoc query tools that you can create standard reports with. Both are fed by the OSU Data Warehouse and contain the same data structures and the same names for the various objects. You can filter on any field.

Jaspersoft includes a drop down menu/list of values for the field selected. This makes searching and selecting values much easier (no more needing to remember specific codes!). One limitation of Jaspersoft is that it cannot query based on a list of IDs. For that functionality, users will need to use Ad Hoc CORE reports. The ability to cut and paste values into Jaspersoft is on the vendor roadmap, but not currently available.

In Jaspersoft you can build crosstabs, charts, and tabular reports all within the environment. You can also build your own dashboards.. In Jaspersoft you can do "report scheduling" to schedule when reports are run and delivered to users.

It is already built, it will be up to the data stewards as to who gets access.

It doesn't quite work like that. CORE is an environment with security levels designed to provide access to predefined reports. Jaspersoft is a querying tool that allows users to build reports and queries. Users will access Jaspersoft through CORE. Both the reports in CORE and the ones created in Jaspersoft are based on the same data source.

Tableau is another data tool. We will be connecting the same data warehouse models from Jaspersoft to Tableau in the future.

Yes. Jaspersoft will include access to recruitment data.

Access to Jaspersoft will be determined by the data steward for student data, which is the Office of the Registrar. All users who are interested in retaining or gaining access to the data warehouse through Jaspersoft will need to follow a request process that is currently being defined. This website will provide additional information as it is available.
